Dylan, you can make your soil productive..A lot of back work. I have sand in Florida for soil. Go to libaray and they should have a book on what to grow in your state, also Home Depot should know what to grow and how in your area. A lot of compost, organic soil, fertilizer. I use fish imulsion. I make my own compost. That way I know it is organic. I also grow herbs and veggies in pots around my house in with flowers. There are certain flowers that will keep bad bugs out. It is a lot of hard physical work but nothing more rewarding than seeing it produce and taking that first bite of your tomato and etc.. Good luck
Peace.

In Key west I saw a border made of wine bottles stuck upside down with 3-4" above ground and they way the sun shined on them, beautiful. I did it to my rock garden in Boston. When I move to Florida I found the soil to be sand. I have a green thumb and through hard work I composted, dug etc.. To get beautiful gardens and I once again used my infamous wine bottles. People stop and stare at my gardens. In the veggie garden my husband started to use beer bottles. Doing some research on English Gardens I found that in the 17th and 18th centuries they used wine glasses upside down to keep the soil moist. It is true.. When it is hot moisture builds up in the bottles and keeps both roots and soil damper and I water less in the areas that I have my bottles.

I love gardening! In fact it was my first lesson in exchanging energy as a child. I learned that I could grow a garden anywhere. I've grown gardens where many have said that nothing would ever grow...lol. I just go to the gardening space and give intent. It's much the same as sharing energy with others and the garden responds with as much love as you send out. Whether it be in small containers or a big space the soil and seeds respond in the most magnificent ways. I have yeilded as much as two bushels per tomatoe plant. Had squash and other plants cross breed to make new and flavorful veggies. It can be quite a bit of fun to see what your garden comes up with next. I hardly ever have to treat for pest control and bees are always happy to oblidge in the pullination. I only use natural fertilizers and there has been times when I didn't have the money for even that and the garden flourished. I believe it is all about remembering our relationship with plants, nature, and the elements!

Hi!
thank you for the invitation!
i have never been able to grow anything except a ficus and some pothos, but i intend to change this aspect of myself.
this past summer we managed to grow a few tomatoes :)
a friend of ours moved to a piece of land (20 acres) that used to be a christmas tree farm and is pre-irrigated. i am excited to get started next spring (even though it is four hours from home...)
your invitation came at the right time since i am planning to plan my garden over the winter when i can't go out because of all the SNOW! :)
my intention is to grow so much food that i have to also learn the art of dehydration and become self-sufficient...
thank you again, and it is a pleasure to meet everyone here!
